“You think IUDs should be illegal?” Reid pressed.

“I don’t think they should be legal, “Hawkins replied. “They put women at risk and they kill children.”

“What about the birth control pill?” the unrelenting Reid asked.

“I do not think it should be legal, I think that shouldn’t be legal,” Hawkins replied before trying to change the subject.

“Kristan, Kristan, Kristan,” Reid said holding up her hand. “I just want clarity. You think that the pill and the IUD should be illegal, right?”

“In my ideal world, yes,” Hawkins stated. “But I don’t think that’s something we’re working towards in the pro-life movement. In the pro-life movement we’re working towards abolishing abortion. That’s why we want Planned Parenthood’s money to go to health centers which don’t do contraception.”

“We’ve gotten some real clarity,” Reid said as she concluded the interview. “I think the American people have gotten quite a bit of clarity on what your movement wants to do.”

Margaret Sanger is rolling in her grave. The fight is never over. Now we will have to fight for birth control. Basic birth control. Do not take anything for granted. Fight for it.

What. The. FUCK???

Reproduction freedom is economic freedom…and well….just basic freedom…Everything people with uteruses do is tied to whether or not we have kids. I couldnt be doing what I want in life if I was constantly knocked up. I couldnt have my job, the ability to travel and see new things, to partake in the economy, to even just sleep in or enjoy my hobbies. All these things I mentioned are my choice, and I have every right to them. Every human has the right to choose their own path in life. Birth control, and easy affordable access to it, is basic freedom. Keep this in mind if u ever think its not a big deal. This is my life. Its not a fucking game. This is basic human rights.

Conservatives keep saying that reproductive rights activists are overreacting when they say birth control may be under attack with the new government, and yet here we are with political groups casually suggesting that it ought to be made illegal.

wtf does she mean by “[iuds] kill children”. is she talking about the fact that they can cause ectopic pregnancy which requires abortion?

They’re lying. This abortion shit is just the major and visible arm of the Dominionists and their “Culture wars”. This is a term they use, btw and they’ve been waiting for an administration headed by a Trump and Pence for a few decades now.

They 100% know that birth control doesn’t abort anything. They know this. They’re not ignorant, they’re acting. This is an issue these people latched onto when Republicans failed to stop desegregation and needed White Identiarian Evangelists back in their corner with guaranteed votes– thats why it didnt spring up until 6 or so years after Roe.

Yes they know, yes they are gaslighting us and being duplicitous. This is 100% about eradicating reproductive autonomy.

While the Handmaiden cosplayers are irritating as hell and Gilead is an extreme example, they are seriously trying to turn the country into a theocracy.

Understand that the threats to roll back civil rights is arm in arm with this as well.

None of this is conspiracy or conjecture, btw.

If you’re in the South or Midwest you’re right up close with these people.

So I’ve seen a ton of people talking about donating to Planned Parenthood so I just wanted to remind people that there are 2 places to donate and the difference is SUPER important!

Planned Parenthood Federation of America is the healthcare side which takes care of all the stuff going on inside your local clinic. The website is blue, and any money it receives cannot go to any political or legal actions because of the government funding they receive. Their site looks like this:

image

Planned Parenthood Action Fund is the side which handles the politics. Their website is pink, they fund any legal actions, protests, rallies, any political thing you can think of they handle. Their site looks like this:

image

The action fund has already filed against Ohio’s 6 week abortion ban and are making moves to file against other states including Alabama. I know it’s a tough time for women’s rights right now but the best way to help out is by donating money and staying involved.

the phrase “come back with a warrant” being such a shortcut for a show trying to make you not be on a character’s side is… terrifying. ykwim

same with how “i want a lawyer” is used to indicate someones guilt, and how people in cop shows only say that when they know theyve been caught.

Yup. In reality, if you’re being questioned by the police, the best bet you have is to say nothing EXCEPT “I want a lawyer,” until you have a lawyer, have talked privately and confidentially with that lawyer, and your lawyer has told you what you should say (which may very well still be absolutely nothing).

I will add a small caveat that if it’s something like giving a statement about, say, witnessing a car accident or whatever, that’s a bit different. But if you’re in custody? Shut the hell up for your own good. It’s not “guilty,” it’s SMART, and don’t let cops or cop shows convince you otherwise.

Right up there with demonizing people who plead the fifth.

Basically these cop shows paint every single one of your rights as something only a real villain would ever even think about using, and/or as an obstacle for the heroes to overcome.

Given the history of false imprisonment and police misconduct in this country, that’s a very dangerous lesson to be teaching.

This is why I really miss shows like Perry Mason and Matlock. These were shows that — every single week — told you a story about someone innocent getting railroaded by the system; usually coming perilously close to losing their freedom or their life. Even though these stories are fiction, I feel like it’s important counter-propaganda, a way to plant the seed in people’s minds that being accused isn’t the same thing as being guilty.

Instead, we have shows like How to Get Away with Murder, where the accused person is definitely guilty, but they find a clever way to escape justice.

tos is so fucking ‘60s. it’s a mirrorverse where everyone is evil and ‘barbaric’ and when they address each other in groups they say gentlemen

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again: the ’60s are encoded into every fiber of the show’s being.

Yeah, yeah: the space hippies, sure. But it’s also the costumes, the plots, the social commentary, all of it.

My two favorite hopelessly-of-their-time aspects to the show are:

1. The computer! You know those scenes where someone gives the computer a difficult task, and it shouts “Working!” and makes a whole bunch of clacking sounds? They put those sounds in there because back in the day, that’s what computers sounded like. They had these moving parts called mechanical relays, each of which clicks when it activates or deactivates. Here’s a short video featuring mechanical relays, and while they’re slower and fewer, you can tell it’s the same basic sound:

I’m oversimplifying a bit, but that sound is all the ones and zeroes flipping about inside the computer. I love to imagine that whole decks of the Enterprise are really just banks of these relays, constantly clicking and clacking; and working for Scotty means half your job is tracking down and replacing the one relay that burned out last night.

2. They took the straight-laced, skeptical scientist and gave him psychic powers! If you’re not old like me, I’m not sure if I can even convey just how incredibly ’60s that is. Everyone in those days was utterly convinced that psychic phenomena were real, and we were this close to proving it.

I mean, if you really stop to think about it, “Telepathy isn’t fantasy; it’s sci-fi!” is a really weird take. Handing those powers to the science officer was a bold way to assert it wouldn’t even be a controversy in the future.

why are there so many posts about asexuals being immune to sirens. people. sirens don’t lure you in with sex (necessarily). they sing about whatever it is that you want most. they could sing about mothman or cinnamon toast crunch and guess what then your asexual pirate is fucking dead

this is the only kind of ace discourse i ever want to see on my dash. the only kind. ever again. good job

Do you think the sirens would be grateful that they finally get some variety?

“Oh my god we can finally just sing about pasta thank the fucking gods.”

I’m not asexual but I’m fairly certain sirens would do a far better job luring me into the depths with a song about pasta rather than sex…

I mean

“WHAT THE FUCK STAY AWAY FROM THE ROCKS.”

“FUCKER THEY SAID THEY HAVE FETTUCCINE CARBONARA AND HOT GARLIC BREAD OVER THERE HANG ON BITCH.”

This is true; Odysseus heard them promising him knowledge of the future.  So the next time you see artwork like this:

we know plankton and krabs have been playing poker together for 15 years

image

we also know this episode aired before the episode where pearl turned 16

image

while the non-continuity & non-chronological order of the series means that assuming that pearl was 15 in welcome to the chum bucket is a fool’s gamble - it’s reasonable enough that if there is an episode about her turning 16, her character was likely conceptualized as being 15 years old prior to that point. but either she was 15 or she was 16 in welcome to the chum bucket … and either way, that’s about as long as pearl’s been alive.

we also know that pearl is krabs’ biological daughter … through a combination of facts … and were given reason to believe that something happened to the mother of his child shortly after pearl’s birth that made him depressed. she’s not around anymore and no longer apart of their lives in any way shape or form.

image

we also know plankton and krabs were childhood best friends, going on to have an on-again-off-again friendship for years prior to spongebob getting a job at the krusty krab … and the two are shown to occasionally have moments where they truly, genuinely care about each other deep down, despite the rivalry …

conclusion: plankton might have started playing poker with krabs to cheer him up after the death of his wife

oh thank god i thought you were going to say plankton was pearls mom

I never watched this show. Is that baby supposed to look like the one from Eraserhead?

I always thought that Google’s informal motto being “don’t be evil” was about as comforting as a coworker having a sign at his cubicle reminding him not to snap and murder everyone in the building.

As it turns out, watching the coworker remove the sign is even more ominous.

image

At the end of the day, Google is (and always has been) an advertising company. “Don’t be evil” was their version of “Just do it”: an empty marketing slogan that was supposed to be vaguely inspirational and get you to think they were on your side.

Ultimately, the reason they dropped the slogan is because it worked too well. An entire generation grew up with the phrase and had the audacity to think it actually meant something. Someone at Google did the math and realized that the sort of outcry depicted above would become commonplace if nothing changed, so here we are.

something that bothers me is when cis lgb people see transphobia from cishets and say “smh straight people are so wild” like…. y’all know it’s not the het part of them that’s being transphobic? it’s the cis side? the cis side that you share with them?

cis members of the lgbt community, please remember you can be and often are just as transphobic as cishets, and you’re not immune to being transphobic. be better.

this is ok to reblog, especially cis people

10% of the notes are trans people who know exactly what i’m talking about and the other 90% are dumbasses refusing to rub their last two brain cells together to read the words in front of them
